The poultry programme at Chishawasha houses 2,000 chickens which are used for food at the school and to sell at market and from the school. The chicks arrive as hatchlings and are kept until they are full grown at six weeks old.
Mr Kasanga who runs the programme looks after the chicks on a daily basis. They are fed a mixture of maize and vitamins that changes across the first few weeks of their life to promote growth.
The income from selling chickens helps to sustain the overall project at Chishawasha.
